Foundation Waterproofing

A LASTING SOLUTION

Foundation Waterproofing

Water infiltration often occurs in the basement of homes and can cause a variety issues including mould, unpleasant odors, stained drywall, and damage to framing and finished areas.

Once your foundation starts permeating water, the deterioration of your concrete will accelerate rapidly. Addressing the issue immediately will prevent deterioration and ensure that the problem does not escalate any further. Our waterproofing is completed on the exterior of your foundation walls with top quality materials and workmanship.

Our Process

01
Excavation

First, we excavate about 4’ along the exterior foundation wall down to the base of the footing with appropriate safety slope. All excavated material will then be removed from the job site. Next, we clean the exposed foundation walls with a pressure washer and inspect the foundation walls and joint conditions.

Once the initial inspection and repairs are complete, we dry and prepare the foundation walls and footing for our membrane.

02
WATERPROOFING

Below final grade elevation, we install Bituthene 3000 Low Temperature waterproofing membrane to the prepared foundation wall. Next, the restored and waterproofed foundation walls are protected with drainage/ protection membrane (System Platon) or 2” SM Styrofoam for additional frost protection (if required).

Geotextile is then installed along the exposed soil side of the trench (to prevent soil from migrating into our backfill material) and a new 4” diameter weeping tile (wrapped in a permeable sock) is connected to the existing tested and functioning house drainage system.

03
FINAL STEPS

Lastly, EC Foundations will conduct the final inspection. We then backfill using ¾” clear crushed stones only, sloping away from the house to ensure positive drainage.

Upon completion of the project, the area is properly cleaned and debris is removed.

Foundation Waterproofing FAQs

What are the signs that my foundation needs waterproofing?

Common signs include water seepage in the basement, musty odors, mould growth, stained drywall, and damage to framing or finished areas. If your concrete foundation is absorbing water, deterioration can accelerate quickly.

How deep do you excavate for exterior waterproofing?

We excavate approximately 4 feet along the exterior foundation wall, down to the base of the footing, ensuring a safe slope and complete access to the area that requires waterproofing.

What waterproofing materials do you use?

EC Foundations uses Bituthene 3000 Low Temperature waterproofing membrane for long-lasting protection. We also apply System Platon or 2” SM Styrofoam for added drainage and frost protection as needed.

Do you install new weeping tile during waterproofing?

Yes, a new 4” diameter weeping tile wrapped in a permeable sock is installed and connected to your home’s existing, tested drainage system to ensure effective water flow away from the foundation.

How do you finish the project after waterproofing is complete?

We backfill the trench using ¾” clear crushed stone to ensure proper drainage and slope it away from the home. Afterward, the site is thoroughly cleaned and all debris is removed.
